The world of FPV (First Person View) doesn’t merely offer a flying toy. Still, it introduces kids to a captivating hobby where technology and play intersect, thereby embedding foundational STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) skills.
If you want something that will entertain them and truly draw their interest in something other than TikTok, then this is it! It gets them (and possibly you!) into an incredible community filled with some of the best people I’ve ever met. It helps get people outdoors, interacting with people and sharpens hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, and computer skills.
If this sounds good, I’ll give you my opinion on the best FPV drones for kids! Keep reading!
The Best FPV Drones For Kids
Drones come in all shapes and sizes. There are gigantic and teenie ones, but for kids just getting started, I recommend something in the realm of a ‘whoop,’ generally a smaller drone with prop guards on it.
Whoops, are a lot of fun! In fact, it’s how I got started myself back in 2015!
When it comes to selecting that first kit to get started, I really like two kits. The Hisingy Stargazer, and the BetaFPV Cetus kits are great because they come with everything you need to get started. That means the drone itself, batteries, the radio, and a set of goggles. And the best part is they’re priced very competitively at around $199-$350, which is especially true when you consider a regular DJI drone is going to run at least double that — and is probably 1/8 the fun.
HISINGY Stargazer Drone Kit
The HISINGY Stargazer drone kit encapsulates a world of exhilaration and educational value, particularly appealing to children and burgeoning hobbyists.
This affordable kit includes a FPV drone with goggles, co-designed with the renowned brand Fat Shark, and access to the engaging HISINGY APP, which merges learning with playful gamification.
Sporting a 3-5 minute flight time (which is standard in the world of FPV) this drone is small enough and light enough to be safe around most people. One of the best parts of flying FPV is the ability to record video and then play it back later. And this goggle also has a built-in DVR, which is perfect for this! Imagine your kid zipping around the coffee table with a drone that weighs less than a pound and then being able to see what they did, share it, watch it, and learn how they can do it better!
Comes with:
- 1x Spare set of 45mm 17-3 Tri-Blade Propeller (Spare Set of 4) – 1mm Smoke Gray
- 1x HISINGY Headset Max Fit Combo (Strap and Padding)
- 1x ES600CH Li-HV Battery Charging Hub
- 1x Welcome Envelope
- 1x HISINGY Stargazer RTF (Fully Assembled)

BetaFPV Cetus X Kit
The BETAFPV Cetus X FPV Kit is a great kit choice, especially when considering an engaging and educational tool for kids. If you’re diving in head first, this kit is a ton of fun in a small package. It’s made of relatively soft plastic (as most whoops are) so they’re generally pretty safe to fly into things around the house, and with this kit, it’s all ready to go out of the box.
Effortless Piloting: Empowering Young Flyers
Navigating the skies becomes achievable for kids with BetaFPV’s LiteRadio 3 Radio, which features the FrSky D8 protocol, plenty for a whoop. The transmitter is designed with simplicity, allowing children to grasp the basics of drone piloting intuitively. It enables them to have control while ensuring that the technicalities do not overshadow the fun and excitement of flight.
Immersive Adventures: Dive into the Skies
With the VR03 FPV Goggles, the 3-inch LCD screen has a resolution of 800×600 pixels and a built-in DVR recorder for clear, immersive visuals. The best part might be the DVR, so you can watch the old flights and edit it together for a little video, or catch yourself power looping the swing set. It’s not just a flying experience; it’s an adventure waiting to unfold in your very own backyard!
Educational Edge: Learn While You Play
The BETAFPV Cetus X FPV Kit is not just a toy; it’s a practical educational tool. Kids unconsciously learn basic aerodynamics, physics, and engineering concepts as they navigate their drones. Furthermore, understanding the mechanics of drone flight and control systems could spark interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), seamlessly blending education with entertainment. It also gets kids into learning more about computers, wireless signals, and the FPV community itself which is incredible!
I hope you find this to be helpful!
